The Laird is set in his ways and stubborn. Will Fliss be able to convince him that she is not what he thinks she is?

With enough sparks to set off fireworks, this is a fabulous romance story from author Lizzie Lamb. A fun and entertaining read from page one, engaging the reader straight away into the story that is written with excellent wit and humour that will make you smile. A cast of lively and thoroughly good fun characters that are so likable that some could have their own spin off stories. I loved everything about this book from the beautiful colour purple of the cover and the catchy title, to the escapism of getting lost in this great book for a few hours.  I look forward to reading more books by Lizzie Lamb.

It is a book that is well worth reading. A great storyline filled with drama, action and romance and just the right amount of comedy to make this a fascinating and entertaining read.  The latest novel from Mandy Baggot is not to be missed.

Sadie also a doctor and Mary had been planning to take over Sadie’s fathers practice when he retired, but now with Sadie’s death, Mary now faced the fact that she would be running the practice alone. Once she got the restaurant up and running she planned to go back to Cincinnati and return to her life.

Along with inheriting the restaurant Mary also finds she has inherited the people who work at the restaurant, who are an interesting and lively bunch of characters. She also makes friends with eleven year old Blossom, who is always hanging around the restaurant asking for a job. When Mary meets Blossom’s single dad Anthony there is an attraction between them, but Mary knows she will not be staying long in town and Anthony knows that he needs to tread carefully when it comes to relationships, as he has to consider what is best for his daughter Blossom. So they become friends despite the mutual attraction. Both Mary and Anthony have been through difficult times. Will they too get a Second Chance?

If you are looking for a good read, then I really recommend this book, I found the story really moving and it is written so brilliantly that you become so involved in the story it is almost like you are actually sitting in the restaurant listening and watching over what is going on.  I really hope that there will be more books about the lovely people in the community of the town of Liberty.

Jen’s Story: Torn between Two Times by Carol Arnall

Jen finds herself shifting between the two times of 1965 and 2011, not sure which one she truly belongs to.

Where will she find happiness in the past or in the present?

Only time will tell.

I really enjoyed this story; Jen is such an amazing and likable leading character, who finds herself torn between two worlds. This was a book I could not put down. There is just something really different and unique about this story. It stands out from the usual time-travel stories that are often all wrote in the same way, with the same outcome. This story really develops the time-travel type story and brings it to a whole new level. The paranormal side to the story fits perfectly together with the time-travelling, making this so much more than just a time-travel story and with the emotional side to it too. I also found myself losing about four hours’ time before I had known it reading this brilliant book. A brilliant read from beginning to end, that leaves you wanting to read more.

Allotment & Garden Guide by Twigs Way

A Monthly Guide to Better Wartime Gardening.

The Allotment & Garden Guides where produced by the Ministry of Agriculture. They came out in monthly issues in 1945. They were twelve issues altogether. They were to encourage people to grow and produce their own food, with seed shortages due to enemy occupation and to help prevent food shortages as the war ended. The guides were a step by step guide to help the amateur gardener learn how to plant and grow their own food.

This book is a history book, looking back at gardening during and after the Second World War and the Guides issued at this time. If you are looking for a gardening book to give advice for your own garden today, some of the information you could use, but some of it would be outdated now.  The books focus is more on the Guides and all twelve of these are featured in this book, with comments about each issue from the author. The book also features posters from this era that were used to promote the ‘Dig for Victory’ and the whole grow your own campaign.

If you enjoy gardening and allotments or history about the Second World War you will find this book a really interesting read. I learnt a lot from reading this book and I found reading the Guides a fascinating read. I think I have also maybe just learnt were my grandfather got some of his brilliant gardening skills from without ever attending Agriculture College too!
