The SW19 Club by Nicola May

Gracie's life starts to fall apart when she is left heartbroken after suffering a miscarriage. Full of grief she withdraws into herself, partner Lewis is also feeling the loss and through a lack of communication the couple drift apart and break-up when their situation is made worse by an indiscretion.

Newly single Gracie tries to rebuild her life and finds comfort in a group she helps to set up for women going through similar experiences. The members of the group are a great support system for each other, knowing they must find a way to live with the pain of great loss that will never leave them, she also tries dating and moving on. But she must face her past to come to terms and begin to heal from her tragic circumstances.

Although there is a deep sadness about this book author Nicola May writes the story with such a fast and lively pace that makes the sensitive issue of what this story is about easier to read and although it does move you emotionally and you feel empathy with Gracie, I could not help smiling at how many times a certain word gets mentioned in this book. I am no prude but I did find this unnecessary repetitive and not needed so much in what is a beautifully told story.

Christmas Yves by Nicola May

Christmas was not looking good for Evie, finding herself without a job and single on Christmas Eve, until she meets Greg who invites her to help out at a homeless shelter he managers on Christmas day.

Evie finds she enjoys her time helping out at the shelter and when she meets a homeless man called Yves and spends a couple of days with him, he learns her about life and he is a huge inspiration to her. But who exactly is this mysterious stranger who has come into her life?

I really loved this book. It is a wonderful read. You are straight into the story, with the fast, lively pace this book is written and it can easily be read in one sitting. A truly great story from beginning to end that is just perfect for this time of year.

The Bow Wow Club by Nicola May

Ruby Stevens had been happily married to George for five years when tragedy had struck leaving her a widow. Fifteen months later and after been mugged, Michael comes to her aid and is really kind to her so they begin a relationship. But when Michael feels that it may be too soon for Ruby to be in a relationship he backs away, knowing that she is still grieving, he decides to give her time in the hope that she will realise that she has feelings for Michael and that she will come back to him.

But when Ruby spots a guy who looks just like her deceased husband, she cannot help but feel attracted to him and she arranges to go out with him. Has Michael lost his chance at love?

The Bow Wow Club is a club that Ruby volunteers at. Bow Wow short for boyfriend of widows, wives of widowers.  The aim of the club is to help people who are dating the bereaved. Learning and sharing experiences about what it is like and the problems that can come up after your partner as lost somebody close to them.

This is the sequel to the brilliant Nicola may book, Working it out. This is a love story, all about moving on. The story is told with good humour and warm wit that keep this book an entertaining and lively read from beginning to end.   Another great read from author Nicola May.

Star Fish by Nicola May

Tired of looking and being unlucky in love, thirty-two year old singleton Amy Anderson decides to join a dating agency. Amy’s plan is to go on different dates with men from each sign of the Zodiac. My hopes this will help her to find her soul mate.

What follows are a series of hysterical dates and situations. Can Amy a dreamy Piscean plan find her the man of her dreams?

This is a brilliant book by Nicola May. The book is a real laugh, written in a nice fast witty pace, as we follow Amy on her quest to find her Mr Right. With some great characters, steamy scenes and just a touch of sadness that does slightly alter the pace and emotion of the story, but the book soon returns back to humour and all in all is a fun chick lit story that is worth the read.

Working It Out by Nicola May

The cover to this book fantastically illustrated and its nice bright colour makes it stand out on the book shelf.

After been made redundant Ruby Matthews comes up with a plan after been inspired by a quote from Kahli Gibran about loving your work. So for a new year’s resolution she comes up with the plan to take twelve jobs in twelve months. She hopes this will help her find the job of her dreams.

We spend twelve months in the life of Ruby, as she spends a year trying out those jobs which include working in a nursing home for retired actors, working as a nanny for clients in the South of France, fortune telling and working in a funeral parlour. So it as got a real Pic ‘n’ Mix of jobs. This brings in a lot of different characters so the story is not just about the jobs but also about the people she meets and gets involved with. Ruby also finds herself having a few love affairs on the way too.

Because of all the different jobs Ruby does we are introduced to many wonderful interesting and some very sweet characters throughout the book as well as some love interests for Ruby along the way. Ruby herself comes across as a very caring and down to earth character.  With lots of books about redundancy often written about the emotions of despair and frustration it is refreshing to read this book which is written in a more positive challenge and there is good humour too. The book is over 300 pages long but the chapters are short and you just can not help reading a little bit more and more and more again!

This is a really great Chick Lit novel by Nicola May.
