Is This All There Is? by Patricia Mann

Beth Thomas married her college sweetheart, now she is thirty-five and she has two little boys. Beth also works part-time at the local university.  Her life should be perfect.  But when a friend invites her on a girl’s night out, and she meets a former student Dave and they share a kiss and she realises that something is missing from her life.

Temptation waits for Beth and this could change her life forever. She leaves the safe environment of her marital home, into the danger of embarking in a passionate affair with the much younger Dave.  But when fantasy and the real world collide, Beth must deal with the aftermath and take a good look at her life to find out what went so wrong and to try and put things right.

Usually I would shy away from a book with an adulterous theme. But I am so glad I got a chance to read this one. The excellent way this story is written makes this a compelling read and the emotional charge of a read. The character Beth and her situation you can’t help but read to find out what will happen and even though she is thinking of having an affair you can’t help but find her a likeable character and show empathy towards her. Beth just seems to have lost her way and is looking to find her place in life, and her story is told in a very touching and moving and human way that makes her more of a victim than a cheating monster.
