Born to Dance by June Tate

Bonny Burton was born to dance. It was everything she ever wanted and her chance to dance and become a professional has come. Bonny gets her big break that can only lead to bigger and brighter things, her talent can take her all the way to the top. Soon her heart is also dancing when well known boxer Mickey enters her life and she feels she is living her dreams. However just as soon as opportunity comes a knocking, it can cause you to fall and throw a few gangsters in with the glamour and glitter, along with crime and corruption in the mix and you have a knock out of a story.

Another great read from author June Tate.

The Dockland Girls by June Tate

Set in Southampton in the 1940's, three strong and independent women form strong bonds and friendship through the hardship of the aftermath of the Second World War, picking up the pieces and trying to overcome the trauma of their past in order to make their lives better for the future.

What I like about June Tate books is that they are not only historically correct and well researched with the facts of the era she sets her books in, but the way the characters and their situations are so real and true to life that you just cannot help but become emotionally involved with the characters. June Tate knows how to tell a good story. I highly recommend any of June Tate's books and there is a large back catalogue to chose from. So that's your summer reading sorted!

When Somebody Loves You by June Tate

It is 1936 and Elsa is running a fruit and veg stall in the local market, engaged to Peter, a local reporter, the future is looking bright for the young couple. When Peter is away chasing a story that could make or break his career, Elsa meets handsome Frenchman Jean-Paul, who is selling antiques through fellow trader Clive's stall. There is something about Clive that Elsa does not trust and although she suspects Clive and Jean-Paul may be up to something dodgy, she still finds herself drawn to the charms of Jean-Paul.

I really enjoy the pace of June Tate books. There is never a dull moment. Not only is this a love story, but with the added suspense of crime and drama, it really makes the story have added depth and you do get quite involved emotionally with the characters… They are so real and I do like a book that plays out in your minds-eye like a film. I am a big fan of June Tate books and there are quite a collection of her books to read. I have always found them an enjoyable and very entertaining read.

Brides of War by June Tate

When Gracie Rider and Valerie Johnson leave their UK lives behind them to start new lives as GI brides in America after the end of the Second World War. They are full of hopes and dreams of what their lives will be. However all is not plain sailing, as they soon discover the reality of the dream to be not what they expected.

I really enjoyed reading this story, the brand new novel from author June Tate. It was the remarkable brave and strong leading ladies in the book that I really liked. Their determination, strength and independence to get what they want out of life, makes the story intriguing and the characters very likeable. I would really like to see what happens next for these wonderful women. I do hope there will be a sequel.

Meet the Author - June Tate

I must confess that I didn't grow up with a burning ambition to be a writer. from the age of five I wanted to be a hairdresser and when I left school I trained in my chosen career. Although I did love letter writing and had seventeen pen friends in my teens. I also thought when I retired I would write a novel, so I guess the desire was just hidden for a while.

Several years into my career I joined the Cunard Company and worked in the Beauty Parlour on board the original Queen Mary for several years where I looked after VIP's and movie stars. Rosalind Russell and Joan Fontain were among my clients and one night in a night club in New York, I was introduced to Errol Flynn. We used to give gents manicures too and a Millionaire wanted to take me to Australia with him for three weeks! I declined!
I then moved to the Mauritania which went cruising around the Caribbean and Mediiterranean Sea for six months of the year. During this time I met an airline pilot who flew out to New York unannounced and proposed.

Several years later and with two daughters, one of them persuaded me to join a class for Creative Writing which set me off on this wondrous journey. I started to learn my craft and discovered that the novel was closest to me heart. After finishing a novel, I met an agent at the Romantic Novelists' Association and at her request sent her three chapters and a synopsis and then the full manuscript. After making several changes, the manuscript was sent to two publishers and to my great delight, they both wanted it! There was an auction between them and then I worked for the winner.
I chose Southampton as my background. It was my hometown and a seaport so was perfect for the Sagas that I penned. I do like to write about the seedy side of life and Southampton was a perfect background.
I prefer to write about the past. For my older readers it's nostalgic and for the younger ones, a lesson in social history. I've written as far back as the first world war up until the sixties, covering the years in between. Especially the second world war where there are so many stories.

Brides of War which will be published in late April will be my eighteenth novel and tells the tale of two GI brides and what happens to them when they move to America. Their trials and tribulations and how they overcome their difficulties. I am now working on another, as I write one a year.

I'm always delighted when I receive messages from my readers who say they have enjoyed my books and I always answer them. After all, if they've taken the time to write the least I can do is write back.

Talk of the Town by June Tate

Set in Southampton in the 1920s, Tilly Thompson is a lively nineteen year old from a working class family who longs for a bit of excitement and adventure in her life. Tilly thinks she may have found it when she meets handsome Eddie Chapman owner of the Blue Pelican club, he offers to take her places and although he has a reputation Tilly is soon drawn in by his charm and charisma.

David Strickland is Tilly’s friend. He is an engineer officer on the Aquitania, and he is fond of Tilly and wants to be with her. He feels he has lost his chance when she gets involved with Eddie. However, when Tilly finds herself in too deep, she becomes involved in Eddie’s world where crime and violence are common place. Tilly must decide if she is willing to become the Talk of the Town.

This is a book that is packed with drama and there is so much going on that you cannot help but read on and on and on to find out what happens. There is never a dull moment in this book. The cast of characters are all interesting and the storyline is put together perfectly, to give us readers an amazing read. There is also a nice interview with author June Tate, some interesting facts from the 1920s, and much more at the back of the book.  This book is going in my top ten reads.

Nothing is Forever by June Tate

Flora Ferguson’s life is left shattered after the tragic death of her fiancé in World War I. All her future plans had come to an abrupt end.

Heartbroken, but brave and determined to move on, Flora decides to dedicate her life helping the poor and deprived children from around the docklands area of Southampton, by opening up a children’s home. Soon it is not only the children that kind-hearted Flora is helping, but other people in great need of a chance of change too. With the help of a local Priest and G.P they find that caring and trying to make a difference is no easy task, and that with their good intentions there are people with bad intentions who only care for themselves and their own criminal agendas and they will stop at nothing to destroy Flora’s good work.

Nothing is Forever is a touching and moving story, about one woman’s intentions to do good being jeopardised by all who are bad.  A powerfully told story that as so much going on in the story that it plays out like a film in your mind, and would be perfect to be made into a film or television drama that would out shine some of the programmes that do make it to our screens. The writing is excellent; I can say nothing but good things about this book and the characters.  I found this book to be especially touching on a personal note too as it did reminded me a lot about my own dear grandmother’s life. It is a realistic story of true to life drama. This is the second June Tate book I have read and I am pleased to see I have many more of her books to read, because I know if I have a June Tate book in my reading pile, I am in for a good read.

Better Days by June Tate

Set in Southampton in 1954, Gemma Barrett dreams of a life at sea, and to travel and see the world. Life is not too bad for Gemma; she has a good job working in a department store. She has met a nice man called Nick Weston, and it was looking like a romance was about to begin.

Gemma had been brought up with tales about life at sea, by her father and she longed to escape to the sea. Even more so when her father announces he is leaving her mother Eve and her for good. After Eve had become bitter towards him for spending long absences at sea and that she had also become resentful towards Gemma.

Gemma takes the opportunity to follow her dream, and she applies for a job as a stewardess aboard The Queen Mary, voyaging to and from New York. When Gemma finds out that Nick Weston will also be aboard the ship and is a first officer it looks like it is destined to be. However things do not go quite so well when Gemma gets involved with Vince Morelli a gang boss who works in the New York docks. This could not only ruin her chances with Nick, but also could put Gemma’s life in great danger.

This is a story that is not all plain sailing, but with a few giant waves in the way for our leading characters to overcome. With a touch of crime added to the plot this is a really entertaining and enjoyable read from June Tate.
