Vince Crow had been party to a revelation the day before that was going to change his life forever. He was no longer one of the small town crowd that delighted in tales of vomiting into plant pots. Vince Crow was about to start living life differently.

Vince Crow had heard somewhere that you could trade a piece of useless junk on the internet and, within a year of swapping it for better and better things, get cool stuff. Crow decided that he himself was going to start off as that piece of tat, jump from one job to the next; indeed, he would trade one lifestyle for a new one, until he was finally a success. Every three months he would have to trade-up for an entirely new life – a new job, a new girl, new wheels, a new pad, new threads – until he reached the top.

The plan of comparing himself to a used item traded over the internet was of course marginally flawed, as there is a human factor to all of this which he’d overlooked. Besides, success isn’t just about work. It’s about the car, the clothes, the house, and getting the girl, so changing all of that with every new trade upwards is a lot more difficult than swapping an old stereo in the classifieds. Crow quickly learns what the price of success really is. An education he would never have got if he had gone to college...

A lively romantic adventure, a nice and easy read that I found hugely entertaining, and enjoyable. Just perfect to cast yourself away from the mishmash of weather we are having at the moment and escape to a book with its warm and sunny setting in the Caribbean.  

Eight of Cups by Mirren Jones

Six women first meet at university in the 1970’s where they all live together. After leaving university they all follow their own paths and all go off in different directions in their lives.  The story follows the women over thirty years as they each go through varies life changing events, marriage,  affairs, motherhood, divorce, and many other ups and downs challenges that life can bring.

The book is beautifully written and is a fascinating read. The story is very captivating and intriguing. There are also some wonderful nostalgia and current trends mentions as we go through the years.  A wonderful collection of life stories blended together perfectly to create a unique and marvellous story.

The Dream of Kings by David K Saunders

The War of the Roses the popular name given to the civil conflict that dominated the late fifteenth century is the setting for this historic novel. Back then the future King Richard III was the Duke of Gloucester and the story begins in the year 1464, when the kingdom is engulfed in a bitter battle between the houses of Lancaster and York to who will claim the Crown of England.

The author cleverly uses a mixture of historical events and figures with fiction to create an epic adventure of a story where vengeance, murder, hatred, witchcraft, betrayal, and deceit are all used in order to obtain power and control over a country bloody and on its knees from battle. In a land where all hope seems to be gone for most love seems to find a way through, and at the heart of this story there is a softer side to the harsh realities of war. The blend and battle of love and war will keep the reader intrigued to find out which will conquer all and be victorious right to the end.

A Change of Heart (The Heartfelt Series # 2) by Adrienne Vaughan

Movie star Ryan O’Gorman is ready to give up his successful acting career and settle down on the remote Irish isle of Innishmahon with journalist Marianne Coltrane. Marianne is already busy making plans and preparing for their new life. The peaceful new life they had both hoped to start living is soon shattered when Ryan finds he is unable to get out of the contract, he must complete two more movies in his trilogy of films. The couple also face further trouble when Angelique, Ryan’s ex-wife and mother of his son turns up demanding also that Ryan sticks to the terms of their marriage contract. When it looks like all hope is lost for Ryan to get out of either contract, Angelique leaves one more shock for the couple which leads to a romance story packed with drama and adventure.

From the colourful characters of the community of Innishmahon to the beautiful isle itself, which thanks to the wonderful writing of author Adrienne Vaughan I loved my escape to Ireland. This was so much more than sitting reading a book this is a book that is so real that it pulls you in and you feel you are no longer a reader but an invisible observer walking through the story with all the characters, following their story, and what an amazing story it is. This is a book you will find never as a dull moment and you will not be able to stop turning the pages.  I cannot wait to read the next book and see what further adventures await.

Well, I have finally boarded the rush hour train of authorship, crowded with a new styled writer, as desperate as the next to secure a seat at the banquet of success. The  positions available are far outnumbered by those who would seek to partake of the rich and sumptuous feast on offer but this is not sufficient deterrent to those who push and barge and fight to get to the table, and I am no different. The opportunities that currently present themselves to any soul who wants to take up the pen or tap at a keyboard are innumerable; the prevalence of self-publishing outlets, the resources that a solitary storyteller can now exploit to promote themselves, formidable. But of course, such a wealth of outlets engenders its own set of problems, not least the competition vying for a share of the cake from that banquet ever inflating in number. The choice for the reader is overwhelming; some would say the avalanche of material on offer drowns individual quality, buries it in the abyss of anonymous irrelevance. Others may say that there is a danger that the number of writers will eventually surpass the number who actually read…

This then, is the backdrop, the landscape that hovers over the arena into which for the first time after 54 years on the planet, I have chosen to enter. But enter I have and my first effort, ‘The Loss of  Mother’ by me Daniel O’Leary, available on Amazon in kindle and paperback form is littered with typing errors, one of the perils of self-publishing and self-editing and yet, despite this undeniable and empirical fact, some of the reviews have humbled me, indeed, some of their content more seductive than the substance within my work. Am I put off by the competition? Not a bit of it. Am I put off by the improbability of likely success? Not at all. Why do I do it? Because if even one person can extract pleasure from something I have penned, then I have indeed been successful! So be ennobled, stiffen the sinews and summon the blood! Let slip the dogs of war and PUBLISH AND BE DAMNED!!!!

Vacationing on the beautiful Caribbean island of Antigua, Janey Sinclair is persuaded by her magazine editor boss to do a quick island hop in order to supervise an impromptu photo-shoot for the front cover. With no flights immediately available, Janey is directed to the harbour.

I was incredibly fortunate to spend most of last summer in the Caribbean, writing and researching my latest novel Castaway in the Caribbean. I found it challenging only in the respect of being continually distracted from the manuscript by the tropical sunshine, the white sand beaches, the warm aquamarine sea, rum cocktails, and the fabulous social scene on offer. Many of these distractions are well documented on my website, blog and Facebook page, if you are interested in reading the details and seeing the photos!

For the purposes of proper research for Castaway in the Caribbean, I travelled to and explored many Caribbean islands and, despite my tendency for sea sickness, I also spent a lot of time in boats. I even got to sail around Tortola, the larger of the British Virgin Islands, in a restored schooner that had been used in the filming of the original Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

The Virgin Islands inspired me with the modern day setting for this romantic adventure novel because, of this chain of around ninety small islands, islets, cays and rocks in the Caribbean Sea, many are uninhabited.

I eventually settled down to write this romantic adventure story on the Caribbean island of Utila, the smaller of the Bay Islands, just off the coast of Honduras. Likened to the Key West of long ago, Utila is a quaint, unspoilt and laid-back little island. Sitting on the largest barrier reef in the western hemisphere, it is also a paradise for scuba diving, which is exactly what my husband was doing every day while I was busy writing this story.

Research is a valuable tool for a writer, so I do hope all the fun and adventure I had in the Caribbean has found its way into the pages of Castaway in the Caribbean.
