Pedigree Mum by Fiona Gibson

When the Tambini family plan to move from London to the South Coast, Kerry Tambini could not be happier. But when husband Rob gets cold feet about moving and he unexpectedly makes an error in judgement that sees him having to stay behind in London and Kerry and their two young children moving to the coast without him. Kerry must adapt to being a single mum in a new town.

When the children ask for a dog Kerry decides to get one, after all Rob never wanted one. Kerry soon finds life is busy, taking care of the family and the newly adopted dog. She is also giving piano lessons and trying to fit in with the local pedigree mums.

When not one but two love interests turn up, will there be time for a new love?

I really enjoyed reading this book. The story is told in and amusing and entertaining way with really good humour. This is one of those books that you just cannot put down; you always want to go on reading to see what happens next. This book deserves more than the five stars that is the limit to award. It as a star quality and personality that makes it stand out. I will look forward to reading more books by Fiona Gibson.

Essex Girls by Laura Ziepe

Meet the Essex Girls:

Jade, had moved away from Essex three years ago to attend university in Bath. Jade had toned down her Essex look of fake-tan, eyelashes and extensions to please boyfriend Tom. But when she finds out Tom has been cheating, there is only one place for her to go, home to Essex and back to her two best friends.

Lisa has been in a long-term relationship since the age of sixteen with boyfriend Jake, but now aged twenty-one is she ready to come out of her comfort zone and see just what else the world has got to offer?

Kelly meets Billy and all is going really well, but Kelly is afraid to commit in case she gets hurt. Will she take a chance on love?

When Jade and Kelly decide to escape from their Essex lives and head to the glamour of Marbella for fun in the sun.  The adventure begins. This is a very amusing and entertaining story from author Laura Ziepe, all we have come to know and love about Essex is included in this book capturing the essence of Essex. (Or some might say the stereotypes!) But it is all done in really good fun and if you are a fan of The Only Way is Essex, you will love this book or if you are looking for just a nice easy fun and humorous read, this book will have you laughing out loud. I really enjoyed reading it.

Laura Ziepe was born in Essex and worked for Media Company and as a receptionist for a law firm before launching her own business mycelebritydress.com in 2009, where customers can hire designer dresses as seen on celebrates and the red carpet. She was offered a place in the first series of The Only Way is Essex. Through her business she now hires dressers to many of the stars of TOWIE and other hit TV shows. Though she hates to admit it, she is rather a (stereo) typical Essex girl, loving shopping, pampering and hitting the gym – not to mention spoiling her two Chihuahuas, Dolly and Dusty.

STRIKER by Michelle Betham

Amber Sullivan had grown up in the professional football world, her father is an ex professional player and Amber works for a local TV news station and had become the shows first ever female sports editor. Amber had seen it all and knew full well the reputations footballers have when it comes to women. She had ended up hurt herself from a past relationship with a player and now she chose to stay well away from any romantic involvement whatsoever with a footballer.

However when a young, sexy, player Ryan Fisher joins Newcastle Redstar, he finds Amber a challenge, finding her different from all the other girls, who given a chance will give Ryan anything he wants and he is always willing to take it.  Well aware of Ryan’s reputation and that he is eleven years her junior, Amber is attracted to Ryan, but with her ex back in her life and Ryan having secrets in his past is Amber running the risk of getting hurt again?

With some very well written racy scenes, this is another, steamy and sensational novel from author Michelle Betham. Set in the North East of England and concentrating on Amber’s intense relationships of being torn between two men, it is an enjoyable and entertaining read. If you like Footballers Wives or Jackie Collin novels then you will really enjoy this book.

Warrant for Love by Sheryl Browne

Leanne Curtis is in a relationship with Richard, the relationship is far from perfect and when Leanne suspects Richard may be cheating she confronts him straight away, which leads her to be arrested by Police Constable Paul Davis after a hilarious misunderstanding.

Paul Davis is separated from his wife and she is now seeing his boss. Paul wants custody of their son James.

After clearing up the misunderstanding Leanne and Paul become friends and Paul becomes Leanne’s lodger and he moves in with her. Could this be a warrant for love?

This is a fantastic romantic comedy with a superb supporting cast. The book focuses on three different couples and their relationship and the ups and downs that arise from being romantically involved. All the couples in the story have interesting stories to tell. I really enjoyed reading this book and I shall look forward to reading more books by Sheryl Browne.

The 1940’s Look by Mike Brown

RECREATING THE FASHIONS, HAIRSTYLES AND MAKE-UP OF THE SECOND WORLD WAR.

This is a fascinating and interesting book about everything to do with the 1940’s look. It covers what people were wearing fashion wise, during the Second World War. Some of the topics covered are hair, make-up, ladies/men’s and children’s fashions, jewellery, shoes, glasses and much more. In the time of ‘Make Do and Mend’ we find out what people were buying and how they bought it. The advice they were given in a time of shortages caused by the War and the impact of rationing.

This book is just brilliant, very well researched and there are some fantastic illustrations and photographs to accompany the information. The information is presented in a bright lively way, which makes the book an enjoyable read.  So if you would like to have a nostalgic look back at the 1940’s. If you are a fan of vintage fashion and are looking to recreate the look of the 1940’s or if you are like me and just have a huge interest in history and learning about the simple everyday things, that you wish they had taught in history at school, to make the lessons much more interesting!

I really enjoyed this bright and colourful book and I learnt a lot from reading it. I will very much look forward to reading more books by author Mike Brown.

Mike Brown is an authority on the Home Front during the Second World War, and is the author of several books, including A Child’s War, Put that Light Out, and is co-author of The Ration Book Diet and the Wartime House.
