Ask me if I’m Happy - Kimberly Menozzi

Emily Miller wants to say goodbye after living, for ten years in Italy. All she wants to do is to travel back home to the States and to leave her life and her marriage behind.

When Emily’s travel plans are delayed, she finds herself stuck for the day in a small Italian town called Bologna after a chance meeting with a kind stranger called Davide Magnani, he offers to act as tour guide and show Emily around the town that he lives in.

Emily and Davide soon connect and there is a strong chemistry between them. Is Emily about to discover that fate as more in store for her than she planned?

This is a beautiful, tender love story by Kimberly Menozzi. Set in Italy and with some use of the Italian Language in the dialogue, that really add to the feeling and romantic setting of the story .This is a really well written, well thought out love story.  I really enjoyed reading this book.

The Beholder - David Bishop

This is a murder mystery crime novel.

Maddie Richards is a homicide detective who has a successful record on solving homicides. Maddie has been put in charge of solving the case of a serial killer they call “The Beholder” because he strips his victims of their beauty and is killing these beautiful women in the most brutal and violent way. Finding the killer for Maddie is like finding a needle in a haystack and she needs to act fast before the killer strikes again.

Set in Phoenix, Arizona this is a brilliant book by David Bishop that will hold the reader from beginning to end. In this book David does not shy away from describing just how gruesome and gritty murder can be. I liked the character of Maddie and liked that it was a good strong female lead in the story. The plot is really good, it keeps you guessing and in suspense all the way through the book. I would really like to read more books about Maddie Richards.

A Book for the Seriously Stressed - Geoff Thompson

How to Stop Stress from Killing You

If you suffer yourself from stress or if anyone you know does, then this is a really helpful book. Geoff Thompson’s book is very interesting and he has lots of personal experience of stressful scenarios that he himself as gone through and he shares with the reader, using good humour too at times on what he does now to avoid stress.

Stress can be a killer; it can take over your life and take the fun out of living. Reading this book will be a big help. Geoff Thompson looks at what causes stress, who is prone to stress, understanding others, why we hurt the people we love, our immediate reactions to stress, symptoms of short-term and long-term stress. He teaches the reader how to learn coping mechanisms to deal with stress, how to use stress as an energy force and how to get relief from stress. The book teaches you the secrets of controlling and using stress to your advantage.

I have people in my life who really do suffer from stress and depression and I found this book really helpful because it made me more aware and able to understand their condition better. Also I learnt why they behave the way that they do sometimes. The book is written in such an easy way for the reader to read, no long boring intellectual waffle, but in a good informative, interesting way.  I will definitely be reading more of Geoff Thompson’s books.

Geoff Thompson has written over twenty published books and is known worldwide for his autobiographical bestseller Watch My Back, about his nine years working as a nightclub doorman.

See You At The Show - Michelle Betham

Stevie Stone is a rock chick; she is a beautiful woman who works as a roadie for a well known rock band called Black Rock Diamond. Stevie spends her time travelling the world with the band. This is a job which she loves and she is close to the band. They are like family and she is in an on/off relationship with the bands lead singer Mark Cassidy.

Daniel Madison’s world is a complete different one to Stevie’s, married to doting wife Samantha and a successful business man turned politician. Daniel as worked hard to get to where he is and one day he dreams of becoming Prime Minister.

But what happens when two completely different worlds collide?

This is a fabulous novel by Michelle Betham. It is just a really great story and you just can not predict what is going to happen next. With a good strong cast of interesting characters, some sizzling steamy scenes. I was hooked from page one and just did not want to stop reading. What is so great about Michelle Betham’s leading lady Stevie is that she has a dangerous edge, a dark side but I just could not help but like her.  If you are looking for a racy, passionate dramatic read. Then this is the book for you.

Death of a Serpent - Susan Russo Anderson

A Serafina Florio Mystery

This is a murder mystery set in Sicily in 1866.

Serafina is a forty something widow, who works as a midwife. Rosa is her childhood friend who works running the local brothel. When three of Rosa’s prostitutes are murdered, the police chief does not put the time or effort into solving the murders. Serafina decides to step in as sleuth and help her friend solve the crimes.

I did enjoy reading about the characters in this book. It did take me a little time to get into the book, but the story soon had me intrigued and the storyline does have some good twists in the plot. This is the first in a series of books about Serafina and I look forward to seeing how the character progresses.

Robert Lindsay - Letting Go

This is the autobiography of one of Britain’s well known actors Robert Lindsay. In his book Robert takes us through his career from playing the well known characters on television, like Wolfie in the sitcom Citizen Smith and Michael Murray in the Alan Bleasdale’s powerful drama GBH, in which Robert won a BAFTA for Best Actor. Robert has also had a successful stage and film career and won a Fred Astaire Award and a Tony Award as Best Actor in a musical for Me and My Girl in London and New York.  Robert has played the part of Ben Harper for the past ten years in the successful BBC sitcom My Family.

This is an interesting insight into Robert’s career. You do not learn too much about Robert’s personal life but with such an outstanding career on stage and screen the book is full of fascinating stories behind the scenes of his work that are very entertaining. If you are a fan of Robert Lindsay or just interested in people then this is a great book to read.
