Treasure Me by Christine Nolfi

Birdie Kaminsky is a petty thief, she as no family who care about her. When she was a child, her mother used her in her scams to con people. Birdie decided to stand alone from the age of sixteen.

Underneath Birdie has got a good heart and she wants her life to change and to be able to live a good honest life. Tales of a secret treasure that have been handed down through her family going back to the civil war era when one of her relations a plantation owner sets free the slave woman who he loved called Justice Postell and sent her north with the treasure. With this knowledge and a clue left by Justice, she travels to the small town of Liberty, Ohio in search of the treasure.

Hugh Schaeffer is a reporter who arrives in Liberty the same day, looking for a scandal story to report on to save his job at the newspaper he works on. With Liberty been such a small town and having no hotels and with nowhere to stay Birdie and Hugh find themselves thrown together and end up having to share a room. When they get to know one another better Birdie confides in Hugh the real reason why she is in Liberty and then Hugh digs into her past and decides to write and print the story about why Birdie is in the town and all about her past. When Birdie wishes nobody to know she feels betrayed because there is a romantic attraction between the pair.

Add to the story lots of fun and interesting characters in this small town that are all in some way connected and you have a really great story, that is filled with mystery and romance and some humour.

Will Birdie find her treasure? Will it be all that she expected to find? I recommend you read this book and find out!
