You can not help but get drawn into the story and characters straightaway,it really pulls you in. What I liked about this storyline was the mystery. I could not stop reading wanting to find outwhat was going on. Mysteriousinvestments, risk taking and tragedy, an excellent storyline from beginning toend make this book a must read.

I found myself willing Claire to succeed andto protect her findings from the people trying to take it from her. Not onlydoes Claire make a groundbreaking medical discovery but she also discoveriesthings about herself and her life that she can change for the better.

Voices of Southampton, is a wonderfulcollection of people from Southampton telling their stories and experiences of growing up in Southampton. The stories comefrom a variety of different people that recall their memories going to schooland work or personal memories of their family, friends and members of thecommunity. There is also a chapter on Southampton stories during the war. There is a good collection of photographsto accompany the stories.

I found all the stories interesting in thisbook. The one I was most moved by was the story about Ben Parker, which is toldby his son. Ben Parker was the only survivor in an air raid. The actual airraid shelter was bombed that Ben was in and he was the only survivor. The airraid killed Ben’s mother, and all his siblings. Ben was only ten when thishappened to him. The book shows a moving letter Ben wrote to his father.

There are many more uplifting and sometimesfunny stories too. The book is full of interesting stories and there are somereally colourful characters in the book. By the end of reading the book you do have a great insight into how Southampton has changed in thelast seventy years. Another brilliantread from Penny Legg.

Southampton Then & Now is a fabulouscollection of black and white archive photographs of Southampton in the past andthen a collection of photographs recreating the same photographs now in fullmodern colour, so the reader can look and compare the photographs and see howbuildings, transport and people have changed over time. The photographs havewell researched and interesting information to accompany them. It is awonderful reflection on the history of the city.

I am a fan of Penny Legg books. Pennyreally pays attention to the detail in the photos and she tries to capture theexact angle that the original photographs were taken at all those years ago,even having to avoid cars on the now modern and much busier roads of Southampton! I really enjoyedcomparing the photographs and spotting the differences from Then &Now. The information that goes alongside the photographs provides the reader with good background information andpresent day information about the photograph. Penny Legg really brings historyto life.

She tells Lily that she hopes she will cometo love the village as much as she does. Lily does settle into the village andcompared to Agora, Aecer is paradise to her. The people are kind and gentle andthe adult age is sixteen so Lily and Mark are treated like children. While Lilysettles, Mark is restless and he still wants to return to Agora.

When the village sheep begin to act strangelyand Mark finds himself sleep walking and causing himself harm. Lily and Marklearn this is what is known as the Nightmare. The Nightmare prays on people’sweaknesses and on their selfish desires. It starts as a bad dream, and then ittakes over unlike a normal nightmare it can not be contained in the dreamershead. The nightmare does not end just because the dreamer wakes up. Mark andLily are told that the Nightmare is stronger in the forest and they performrituals to keep it out of the village so they are safer if they stay in thevillage.

But when a mysterious women dressed ingreen, appears to both Lily and Mark in their dreams, urging them to find TheChildren of the Lost will Lily and Mark be prepared to leave the village and goback into the forest and face the Nightmare?

So it is a nice long read and I found I could completelyget lost and easily lose a couple of hours, when I was reading this book it’sjust pure escapism at its best. I will look forward to reading more of MichelleBetham’s work.

The counterfeit money was the money from the agencybut Patrick refuses to tell how he came to bank counterfeit money. So he goesto jail with tragic circumstances for Elaine when he kills himself.

Angry with all the trouble and pain theagency have caused and blaming Ronald Eskew for her father’s death she decidesto confront Eskew. She finds out that the agency is a scam and that the agencyas gone, disappeared with no forwarding address and no way of tracing them.Harbouring a secret deep seated hatred for Eskew she wants revenge, so shedecides to join the Secret Service and to become a Secret Service Agent and totrack down Eskew and punish him for what he has done. Elaine feels she can notmove forward in her life until justice was done.

Elaine is accepted into the Secret Serviceand becomes an expert at detecting counterfeit money.

Will she be able to track down Eskew andavenge her father’s death?

This is an excellent Mystery and Suspensenovel by Mike Wells. Mike Wells says that his goal has always been to writebooks that are engaging and entertaining that you can’t stop reading after acouple of pages. ‘Unputdownable books’ Mike Wells has achieved that and you getexactly that in this book. You are hooked right from the start, all the waythrough the book which comes to a cliff hanger of an ending that leaves thereader gasping and eagerly wanting to go straight on to read book two in theseries.

Mike Wells writes in a variety of genre,thrillers and suspense, young adult and horror.

The storyline is very cleverly played out andkeeps the reader engrossed throughout. This book is a lot different from theother Mary O’Sullivan books that I have read and is just as good and wellwritten. I really recommend this book it is a compelling read.

Irish author Mary O’Sullivan is a wife,mother and writer. Mostly she muddles along in a welter of multi-tasking eatingchocolate and painting in times of crisis!

They say that Derby is the most haunted place in the UK but after reading this book I thinkthat maybe it could be Southampton with its ghostly sightings and haunted happenings. They include thesighting of a grey lady in the Royal Victoria Park which used to be the site ofa former military hospital. The Brushmaker Arms that has got a long history ofphenomena and of things going bump in the night and a mysterious person on arailway platform and much, much more. You could not ask for detail any betterthan what Penny has provided. The people who are sharing their experiences arenamed and each stories history and past is well researched and photos areprovided of the places and there are also some spooky pictures for the readerto observe. There are also some interesting interviews with people who work inthe paranormal field including a ghost hunter and Britain’s youngest medium.

This bookwill appeal to not just the people who live in the Southampton area, but to all who are interestedin not only the paranormal but in history too. I have never been to Southampton but now thanks to this book, I nowknow some interesting places to visit and explore. This is a thoroughlyfascinating read. I look forward to reading more of Penny’s work.

I liked thecharacter Iona and I will look forward to readingthe other books in this series and seeing how Iona’s character develops. Maycly is amagical book it takes you back to that lovely childhood feeling of when youstill believed in the tooth fairy.

Then whenNicole helps diagnose one of Damien’s patients they become closer and Nicolefinds herself falling for Damien. Something she feels would complicate her liferight now.

So whatwill she do when Damien invites her to spend Christmas with him?

This is areally beautiful, moving and inspiring read by Laurie Ryan. I wish there wasmore people in the world as dedicated and caring as Nicole Milbourne.

It is a quirky story about love and friendship.Written with deadpan humour that makes this book is an amazing read and just likethe play on the title I think I may have just stepped through the looking glassand found a brand new genre.

What is different about this book is the clever way the authorEmlyn Chand involves the reader more by including at the start of every chapter,Runes and we the reader are invited to try out our own psychic powers by tryingto predict what each chapter will hold based on the Runes and the clueprovided. With me being the daughter of a medium I had to give it a go. I haveto say I was surprised just how much I was able to tune in and it was nice topause for thought between chapters. I just want to read more and more andreally hope to see in the Runes a prediction of more adventures from Alex,Simmi, Shapri and the fabulously named psychic Miss Teak.

This is a brilliant read. An emotionally charged novel frombeginning to end it flips back and forth between the present day and back tothe 1960’s. It tells the story of howevents that happen can completely change people’s lives. The storyline issuperbly written, it is sad in parts and there is some tragedy. You getstraight into the story from the first page and the story just carries youalong at a nice pace. You do get quite emotionally attached to the characters,especially Natalie.

I really recommend this book it is an excellent read.

So much happens it is none stop drama from beginningto end. I wanted to find out what was going on and happening with eachcharacter. The book has a fantastic cast of characters who all have their ownmysteries and secrets to unravel. Ireally recommend this book it is really well written with such well thought outstorylines that take you on an emotional journey.

I will now be adding all of Mary O’Sullivan’s books to mycollection and I can not wait to read them.

I would like to include in my reviews some of theclassics. I thought I might re read someof them and see what I think of them as a woman now in her thirties. I firstremember reading Gulliver’s Travels around thirty years ago aged around eight.We read it at school, all the class together in the classroom and I know someof the other children use to hate and dread the moment the teacher would pickon them to read out loud to the class, but I was always hoping to be pickedbecause I loved reading out loud and been able to express by the tone of myvoice all the different characters.

To be honest I did not remember much about the many places Gullivertravels to or ends up in on in his voyages to sea, mainly memory has been overtaken by the many films that are out. I have yet to see the most recentstarring Jack Black. Most of us remember Lilliput and know that part of the storyreally well and the scene that comes to mind is Gulliver lying tied down andheld by the little people who are no more than six inches high. We alsoremember Brobdingnang the land of the giant people. But there is far more thanthat to this story which I had completely forgotten about. Gulliver travels toseveral more remote islands Laputa, Balnibarbi, Luggnagg, Glubbdubdrib andHouynhnms where he meets some more interesting beings and characters and haslots of adventures.

For me personally Lilliput is still my favourite part of thebook and the part I find the most interesting. It makes you think that Gullivermust have really enjoyed travelling because he ends up in these situations andthen gets back home safely but then still returns to sea!

Wren needs to turn back time to make sure that one of the biggest events in history takes place, the sinking of the Titanic. Wren is in an alternative reality were the Titanic captain was forewarned about the ship hitting the iceberg so he changed course and the Titanic never hit the iceberg, so it never sunk. Due to the Titanic not sinking this caused an even bigger disaster, World War I did not end in 1918, and many more lives were lost as a result of this.

Wren must make sure that the Titanic fulfils her true destiny and sinks. The only person that can see Wren is an old lady. She gives Wren the name Angel of the Titanic, and her Granddaughter agrees to help Wren on his quest.

Can they change the timeline back to its normal course?

This is a great idea for a storyline, very original and makes you think what if the Titanic had not sunk. The story mixes fact and fiction and uses some well known legends and they do gel nice together turning the story into a good adventure. The story is written in a fast pace that goes straight into the heart of the story. The book has a great cast of characters. If you like mystical adventure stories with a touch of romance then this is the book for you.

With Liberty been such a small town and having no hotels and with nowhere to stay Birdie and Hugh find themselves thrown together and end up having to share a room. When they get to know one another better Birdie confides in Hugh the real reason why she is in Liberty and then Hugh digs into her past and decides to write and print the story about why Birdie is in the town and all about her past. When Birdie wishes nobody to know she feels betrayed because there is a romantic attraction between the pair.

Add to the story lots of fun and interesting characters in this small town that are all in some way connected and you have a really great story, that is filled with mystery and romance and some humour.

Will Birdie find her treasure? Will it be all that she expected to find? I recommend you read this book and find out!

I really enjoyed reading this book even though Jemma is meddling and should be leaving it to the detectives. I wanted her to do well with her amateur sleuthing. A great mystery story by Maggie Bishop with some great characters.

They decide to work on a project together. When Rose’s daughter arrives to stay, we learn more about Rose and her past. Calum cares deeply for Rose but he has his own demons to exorcise from the past. Can they put the past behind them and move forward with their lives?

Emotional Geology is a great read; it has two great characters that really pull you into the story. I read the book from cover to cover. What I like about this book is the way that poetry is used throughout the story, this really helps you to get inside Rose’s head and help you to understand how she is feeling and thinking. The characters are interesting and the more the story unfolds the more you learn about their pasts. A really great storyline that is written in a honest and sensitive way that I am sure many readers can relate to the issues that come up in this story. Another great story from Linda Gillard.

She notices that Alfie begins to act differently and when she sees an old childhood photograph of Alfie and the boy in the picture is playing cricket with his left hand and she is certain that Alfie is right handed. She then discovers letters that have been sewn into a postage stamp quilt which provide her with more clues that something is not quite right. As she begins not to trust Alfie she finds herself drawn to Marek the family gardener who provides a sympathetic ear and listens to Gwen.

What is going on? Can Gwen unravel the truth?

A thoroughly, grippingly great mystery story that really makes you curious to what is going on. All though some of the characters are slightly odd you cannot help but like them all. A really enjoyable read.

Sometimes it Happens is set on location of the posh and luxurious millionaires resort of Villas Bonitas. The story is about a lovely character called Doreen Wilkinson who after a big lottery win is holidaying on the resort with her daughter Tricia. Doreen is a great character she is not from a privileged background and the win has changed her life. She is from the East end of London and all her dialogue is written out just how she would talk in a cockney type slang which brings her more to life and is quite funny at times.

This is a new start for Doreen, who in the past struggled for money and now she has it by the bucket load. When she arrives at the Villas, she causes a stir because as some of the other guests might say she is from a different class from the people who would normally stay there. Some of the other guests are Jack and Sheila Hoskins. Sheila is a complete snob, who looks down her nose at Doreen and she could make things unpleasant for her during her stay. Jack her husband is not all that Sheila thinks him to be and is keeping secrets. Simon and his partner Chicky who work as barristers. Add to that the staff who take care of the running of the Villas and you have got a great mix of characters, each with their own secrets. When Pat Greenwood, Doreen’s ex shows up unexpectedly, is he all that he appears to be or is he just after Doreen’s money?

This is a fantastic funny read. The characters really come to life and the interaction they have with each other is well written and done with great humour. When we all go on holiday, you never know what kind of people you are going to meet and this is what the story is about, a group of people who have ended up staying at the same location. What is great about this story is, that it has a moral that no matter how much money people have that they can still be the worst mannered and have no respect for others and that it is important to respect everyone no matter what their background is. It is about the person that you are and how well you respect and treat other people.

Sometimes it Happens put me in the mood for a much needed holiday and when I go I hope I have packed a book that is as good as this one! A great holiday read or it will brighten up a rainy day stuck indoors.

We can all remember where we were on the fateful morning of September 11^th 2001. Even those of us who were not in New York witnessed the horror of what happened on the television. Artie was present in New York on that morning at work across from the World Trade Centre and he describes in detail what he witnessed, from the moment he hears a loud boom in his office, to the horror he witnesses on the streets outside. Artie tells us what it was like to be in New York City that day and in the weeks and months that followed.

It is hard to believe that we are fast approaching the tenth anniversary of September 11^th. Artie’s account is an important part of history. We must not forget what happened and remember all those who lost their lives. This book gives us a greater understanding of what it was like to be there and have to have experienced what was happening. It is such a powerful account that will transport you back to the horrors of that day. While I was reading this book, I had to keep pausing from reading to reflect, it really moved me, emotionally, because we all deeply care about the loss of lives and what people experienced that day. This book will stay with you a long time after you have read it. It really makes you think about how lives are still, affected by those who were there like Artie on that terrible day.

She plans to set up in business as a seamstress and do something she enjoys. She slowly makes good friends with her neighbours and meets the mysterious Patrick Castagnol, who we learn lots more about as the story goes on.

Catherine finds that her plans do not go how she expected when she has the French Bureaucracy to contend with about the plans of running her business. She comes to really love the French Countryside and the people, but what will she do now her dream of running her own business may be over and what about her family that she as left behind in England. Has she made the right decision?

This book really takes you on Catherine’s journey she is a very kind and sensitive character who comes to care deeply for her neighbours. The story centres on Catherine with the rest of the cast in supporting roles to her. The other characters are interesting and you really feel with this book. It is a deeply written novel that is written at a slow pace but gets you interested and makes you want to take in every word and you really feel like you are there with Catherine and can easily imagine the scenes in the book.

I have not read any of Rosy Thornton’s books but after reading The Tapestry of Love I will be adding more of her books to my collection.

It is not long before she meets the local Vicar the Reverend Marcus Calloway and their friendship soon develops into a romantic relationship but can a relationship between a medium and a vicar ever work? Especially after Camilla has more spirit contact and she finds out that Marcus has his own guilty secret.

This is a really well written paranormal romance it is not a scary read, just a really nice gentle and realistic story about the paranormal. I really enjoyed reading this book. I could not wait to see what happened when Camilla moved into the house and communicated with the spirit people. Also to find out the mystery of the house and I was not disappointed. The story keeps you interested so much that you do not want to put the book down. There is some great dialogue too between Camilla and the spirit people not at all cryptic! If you are into the paranormal, you will like this.

This is a romance novel, the main character Selene is different from most of the leading female characters that you find in a romance novel. She is a strong women who knows her own mind, she has lots and lots of self-confidence, knows she is good looking, knows she is beautiful and that she has a good body that she looks after. Selene works as a journalist and she decides to go on holiday alone with a plan to look for a passionate adventure her plan is to go on holiday to meet someone for sex. She has a certain man in mind that she is looking for.

She goes on holiday to a place that she thinks would be a good setting for this to happen, the story is set in hot Central America with its beaches. It is not long before Selene seduces a young man on a beach. She knows this is not quite, what she was looking for so much to the young man’s disappointment she quickly moves on and does not dwell on her mistake and gets back on track with her plan. Then she meets Hudson, is he what she is looking for?

Right from the start of this story we know what Selene wants and as the story progresses we get to know Selene through her memories and that it is down to relationships that have been disappointing in her past that have made her the way she is.

A good read.

In 2000, Richard’s life reaches rock bottom so the first part of the book tells Richard’s story of how he with a little spiritual help was able to change is life for the better. He takes us on his own personal journey of self-discovery. He shares with us experiences of astral projection from when he first discovered he could do this to how after gaining more experiences he can now be fully in control when he is having out of body experiences and is now used to it and now finds it enjoyable.

The second part of the book focus on Richard’s visit to Southern India in October 2009 and the spiritual journey he has when he visits Sri Sathya Sai Baba at his ashram in Prasanthi Nilayam (Abode of the highest place). Richard shares his experiences and shows us that he as an openness to learn and understand life and the lessons we learn from life.

I found this book really interesting. It is really well written and you just cannot stop reading it. Richard goes in to great detail when describing what happens to him when he is having an out of body experience. When he talks about Baba it made me want to learn much more about him because until I had read Richards book I had heard the name before but was unsure who he was and what he did and after reading what Richard wrote about him he sounded so interesting I was googling away once I had finished reading.

Another thought inspiring book from Richard that makes you really want to open up your mind more and learn.

This is a psychic romance story. In the story Mya knows she is dead although she cannot believe it she remembers a bright comforting light and she is now in the afterlife, she really wishes that she had read up on the afterlife because she is confused if this is the way it is suppose to be or if she is doing something wrong. She wonders whatever happened to the angels and the clouds, she asks herself wasn’t there someone who was suppose to greet her to show her the ropes?

Mya wants to talk to people and she finds that she can communicate with a girl called Laurel who has the gift of been able to talk to spirits. When Mya sees that Laurel is having problems in her relationship with her boyfriend Dan. Mya starts to think and believe that it is her mission to get Laurel and Dan back together, turning Laurels life upside down. Mya spends her time drifting between Laurel and Dan she is unable to control how and when she appears, and she no longer has any sense of time. When she is not spending time with Laurel she finds herself spending time with Dan, who she cannot talk to but Dan feels her presence, but because they cannot communicate, he does not know whom the presence is and he is already in a fragile state.

Will Mya bring Laurel and Dan back together?

Although this is a psychic romance, you do not have to be interested in the paranormal to read this book because it is not a ghost story, it is more about human emotions and feelings. What is different with this book is that through out the chapters the story is told by all the main characters from their point of view and this is really done well with excellent writing so you do not get confused or lose the plot in anyway. There are some unexpected twists in the story, which add to the story and make it an excellent feel good read.

The consequences of Henry’s actions affect the lives of many people. It destroys people’s lives and takes many years for it to be resolved. Celia never forgets about her baby she has carried and given birth to. Will she be able to undo the web of deceit that her father as weaved and be able to reconnect with her baby?

Satchfield Hall is a family saga it is about power, love, lies and in the end revenge. It is a wonderfully well written story of a period drama. It’s a page turner of a book it really gets you involved in the story. The characters are really well written you really detest Henry Bryant-Smythe and really hope he gets his comeuppance.

I really enjoyed reading The Behind Blue eyes Trilogy. You really get to know all the characters well over the three books. The books take us through the mid sixties to the early seventies and we have lots of the nostalgia of the era mentioned in the book. Including the music, which makes you want to dig out those old combination albums from the sixties and seventies. The Trilogy would make a fantastic television series because there is a lot of drama and twists and turns that play out throughout the books. Just as you are thinking the plot is going to go one way you are hit with a twist that leaves you thinking not again! All in all a great read.

She may escape her life but can she escape herself?

“Torn” is a well written romance novel with some racy sexy scenes. It as got a nice cast of likeable characters. A good storyline that keeps you interested. You really feel how Jessica wants to settle down and be a good responsible parent for Rory and that she just wants to fit in with people in her new life in the country. Danny and James are also great characters and we learn more about all their pasts as we read on.

Another really great read by Gilli Allan.

The story focus on Robyn a journalist who is pregnant and her vet husband Zach who have been living a quiet life on the shores of Felton bay disturb only by Zach’s unease about Robyn’s previous affair with Kevin Phillips her boss of the Daily news. With the outbreak of the Bluetongue virus and the extreme weather report the media including Kevin descend on the village.

Does Robyn still have feelings for Kevin? How will she react when he shows an interest in her lively friend Tansy and will the village survive?

The book is full of drama. You really do care about what happens to the characters and feel for their plight as they go through the dangers of what the elements may bring as they are drawn closer together and learn more about one another the good and the bad.

This is a must read, it is a really good read.

If you are interested in angels and learning all about them then this trilogy is for you. In the first volume of this trilogy we learn a lot about what angels are what they do. It sorts out the facts from the myths. For example do angels have wings? We learn about angelic realms and angel spheres and angel names. Also in part of the book Richard does a question and answer session with our celestial friends and we are given an amazing insight into the work that angels do.

Volume 2 The Law of the Universe

In this book the second in the trilogy we learn more about our celestial friends and also all about spiritual law and answers, about life and gives you good advice about how to get the best out of life. It really makes you think and if you are on a spiritual journey and want to learn how to become more spiritual aware then this book is really a great read for that. It is very inspiring and uplifting. There is also a part of this book is a question and answers session.

Volume 3 Insight

This is the last of the trilogy the book consists with the question and answers dialogue all the way through the book. Richard asks the questions that he felt remained unanswered from the other two volumes. Richard asks some interesting questions and lots of different topics are discussed including soul mates and environmental issues.

The books are written in an easy to read and understand way and like a guide book.

After reading the entire trilogy I felt really uplifted and certainly felt I learnt a lot from the books which I can put into practice in my own life. I am sure a lot of people will be able to connect with the trilogy. It really opens your mind and Richard is a good spiritual teacher guiding you through the books. These books are good to read not only if you have an interest in angels or the paranormal but if you are searching to make a difference and feel in need of change in your life.

Storm’s Heart by Rachel Lyndhurst

This is a romance novel about Kizzy Dean who as got no family in her life so her job as a restaurant manager is her life and all she has got. When she hears that her boss a wealthy Greek lawyer called Andreas Lazarides plans to close down the restaurant Kizzy tries to stop him by telling him that she has ideas which could save the restaurant. But Andreas has got his own personal reasons for closing the restaurant down and wants to keep those reasons private and he does not want Kizzy to tell the other people that work in the restaurant. So he offers Kizzy a new job in exchange that she does not tell. Before Kizzy gets the chance to discuss and find out more about her new job Andreas flies her to Rhodes. As the couple spend time together they become close and there are some sizzling scenes written in this book between the two characters, that are filled with heat and passion. But with both Andreas and Kizzy having difficult pasts can their romance last?

This is one of the best romance novels I have read. I love the way you are drawn from page one into the story and it is fast paced, it really keeps you interested. You can easily read this book in one sitting, but if you blush easily best read it indoors and not sat on the beach! This is escapism at its best and the way the descriptions of Rhodes are so well written it really brings the images alive in your minds eye.

This is the debut novel from Rachel Lyndhurst and I look forward to reading more of her work well worth reading.

Working It Out by Nicola May

The cover to this book fantastically illustrated and its nice bright colour makes it stand out on the book shelf.

After been made redundant Ruby Matthews comes up with a plan after been inspired by a quote from Kahli Gibran about loving your work. So for a new year’s resolution she comes up with the plan to take twelve jobs in twelve months. She hopes this will help her find the job of her dreams.

We spend twelve months in the life of Ruby, as she spends a year trying out those jobs which include working in a nursing home for retired actors, working as a nanny for clients in the South of France, fortune telling and working in a funeral parlour. So it as got a real Pic ‘n’ Mix of jobs. This brings in a lot of different characters so the story is not just about the jobs but also about the people she meets and gets involved with. Ruby also finds herself having a few love affairs on the way too.

Because of all the different jobs Ruby does we are introduced to many wonderful interesting and some very sweet characters throughout the book as well as some love interests for Ruby along the way. Ruby herself comes across as a very caring and down to earth character. With lots of books about redundancy often written about the emotions of despair and frustration it is refreshing to read this book which is written in a more positive challenge and there is good humour too. The book is over 300 pages long but the chapters are short and you just can not help reading a little bit more and more and more again!

This is a really great Chick Lit novel by Nicola May.

Necessary Heartbreak is the first of a trilogy of books by Michael J. Sullivan.

The story is about Michael Stewart who after his own troubled childhood after losing his own mother and a spell of been homeless and now after losing his wife he is a single father bringing up his teenage daughter Elizabeth. He is a good father and trying to do the best he can for his daughter. But due to past events he has completely lost his faith.

Michael and Elizabeth are helping out volunteering at their local church, when storing some boxes in the basement of the church, Michael finds a trap door, Michael thinking that Elizabeth may have gone through the trap door follows and finds himself in a tunnel and this is where the adventure begins!

They find that they have gone back in time to Holy week in Jerusalem and are caught up in the last week of Jesus’ life. Back to the time when the Romans where fierce and violent and brutal. With the help of a kind widow character called Leah will they be able to find their way back home? Will Michael’s faith be restored?

Necessary Heartbreak is a fantastic read; it draws you into the story from the very beginning. It is fast moving and can be read in one sitting. The storylines about Holy week are written with respect and it is clear a lot of research went into recording the accuracy of these events. This is one of those books that you just do not want to get to the end of and thankfully Michael J. Sullivan is working on the sequel for which I will be first in the queue to buy!

This book is well written.

The story is about a small family, the mother Nickii, father John and their two daughters, Claire and Jackie who are in their thirties. Jackie has been suffering from Mental illness for the last eight years.

It is important to say that the main focus of this book, is not just on the issue of mental illness, it does not centre on the issue on how it affects Jackie, the story is more about the other members of the family and how they find their own individual ways of coping and dealing with the difficult and often helplessness, that Jackie’s illness has on their lives.

The family find that they do not get much help from the Doctor or Social Services which adds to their stress. When a new Doctor takes over Jackie’s case positive changes start to happen.

You really do feel the emotions that each individual character goes through. The story really takes you through the difficulties that families are faced with under these circumstances. You do learn a lot by reading the book about human emotion. It is a very inspiring read and well worth reading.

Being A Sceptic Is Oh So Easy by Linn B. Halton

When I first looked at the cover of this book I was drawn into the stillness and sadness of the empty bench. It sums up the same emotions we all feel when faced with the loss of a loved one.

Sadly Linn’s mother passed away in the spring 2009.

After going to an audience of clairvoyance Linn feels a strong impulse to write about past experiences which have something in common. They are all experiences of events in her life that she has had feelings of intuition. Linn feels as though her mother is inspiring her to write, thoughts and ideas come to her in fast flow. It’s these experiences that Linn shares in her book.

The book is not written to make sceptics believe that there is life after death; the book is Linn’s true life personal story of why she came to believe that there is life after death and how she has taken a leap of faith.

The experiences Linn shares are very interesting and she covers some topics that really make you think. Some of these experiences moved me to tears, but by the end of the book I felt uplifted.

This is a really good read.

This is the position Jane Leonard finds herself in after giving her son half of her house. Unaware that she would be forced to sell her home within twelve months.

Magnolia House is a wonderful written novel by Pauline Barclay. I could not put it down; it keeps you interested from beginning to end and takes you on an emotional journey that touches your heart with the sadness of grief, but also shares moments of humour that make you laugh out loud. The characters are very like able and easy to connect with throughout the journey through this book.

I would recommend reading this book and I very much look forward to reading more books by Pauline Barclay.
